  Narrow Victory For Curry Central
Posted by: Newsroom - 10-31-2012, 12:56 PM - Forum: UK News Feed - No Replies

Bradford has hung on to its title by the narrowest of margins to become Curry Capital of Britain 2012, the third time the city that boasts 200 curry restaurants has won the title. Glasgow still holds the record as a four time winner and was equal on points with 83 out of a possible 100 points with Wolverhampton third just two points behind, its strongest challenge to date. The title went to Bradford on a tie break due to being higher in public voting in both the national and sponsor Hungryhouse polls. Organiser Peter Grove commented, “The 10th running of Curry Capital of Britain was undoubtedly the greatest ever and team restaurants and councils have to be congratulated on their high standards. All three of the top cities produced fantastic submissions, underscoring their commitment to the curry industry and ethnic community whilst emphasising how important curry is to their cities. Wolverhampton gets better each year whilst Glasgow continues to set the standard for enthusiasm and commitment but Bradford, the city that seems to eat, breath and even export curry, just made it across the line first by the narrowest of margins”. 2011/2012 has been a very difficult time for many Read moreNarrow Victory For Curry Central is a post from: Food-e-Matters UK

  Tom’s Kitchen for Canary Wharf

Tom Aikens Restaurant Group is delighted to announce the acquisition of a site in Canary Wharf for a new Tom’s Kitchen, Deli and Bar scheduled to open in April 2013. This will be the third location for the popular British brasserie with exciting plans for further site openings in the near future. Tom’s Kitchen in Chelsea was opened in November 2006 as the informal counterpart to the Michelin starred Tom Aikens restaurant. The 120-seat eatery features brasserie dining, from breakfast to dinner, in a relaxed and casual setting. In 2009, the award-winning chef partnered with Compass Group to launch a second location in Somerset House alongside the opening of Tom’s Deli and Tom’s Terrace. Aikens is looking forward to opening a new property within the Tom Aikens Restaurant Group portfolio with his business partners London Doors. He comments, “We have been exploring options for a space in East London for some time now and we are thrilled to be moving forward with this exciting third location. We are keen to offer our quality British comfort food, featuring the finest seasonal produce to the thriving Canary Wharf community.” Tom’s Kitchen for Canary Wharf is a post from: Food-e-Matters UKTom’s Kitchen for Canary Wharf is a post from: Food-e-Matters UK

If the thought of Christmas food shopping brings you out in a cold sweat then spare a thought for Abby Knight. As chief buyer for the Suffolk Food Hall, the county’s unique, multi-award winning one-stop artisan food and gifts emporium, Abby is responsible for stocking and buying quality food gifts for the Food Hall’s 250,000 visitors each year. Thankfully, it’s a job she loves. Even better, it’s a job she excels at. At the tender age of 24 years, Abby supervises 50 staff, is responsible for greengrocery, the food shop, delicatessen, wine, chocolate and giftwares and, under her watch, boasts a turnover of £1.5million per annum – all this after just four years in the job. In short, she is a Suffolk Food Star. Talking about her selection for Christmas 2012, Abby says: “This year, I’ve gone for original classics; all the essentials you need for a delicious Christmas, such as Christmas puddings or cranberry jelly, but the best of the best from the county’s premier producers. If you can’t treat yourself to something extra special at Christmas, when can you?” This year, the SFH has a new attraction for Christmas shoppers: a brand new giftware space, packed with on-trend Read moreTop Ten Xmas Foodie Gifts is a post from: Food-e-Matters UK
