about

“Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all”

this would be me

A lifelong obsession with food, cooking, baking and eating, has led me to the creation of Drizzle and Dip.  I finally have a way to spread my culinarian love and connect in a broader way with like minded people.

It’s a space for me to write about what I like, what I dont like, what I cook and bake, and any other food experiences in my kitchen and out, with an emphasis on the visual.

right from the begining I loved tucking in

Why?

Because I love cooking, baking, sharing, making pretty pictures of food and eating (preferably with a glass of wine in my hand). I’m learning so much as I go.

I’m inspired by so many people, my fellow food bloggers, chefs, and any person who loves food.

I love eating out and feel that whilst I’m not a professional restaurant critic, my years spent in the hospitality industry and wide travel give me as much credibility as the next person to write about my experience in a particular restaurant. Granted I may be a bit fussier than most, but that is because I have worked in all areas so I know what it takes to get the job done.

I try to take pictures of my food without flash and without being disruptive to other people around me. The quality of these images will never be that good, but I hope to deliver a good impression of what it is I ate. I am very grateful to all my friends who wait patiently whilst I take a photo of their meal, and who don’t in anyway make me feel like the obsessive food freak that I am.

So how did I get here?

Aside from the life long fixation with it, food has always been a part of my career. I did the hospitality management thing for many years. Then onto marketing food and fast food restaurants, eventually deciding to quit corporate slavery and move back to Cape Town to build a dream life.

I’m now a freelance food stylist, I do recipe development, bespoke baking and recently started a cold smoking food business with a partner called: The Smoking Shed.

What next?

As this is a journey without a roadmap, I have no idea where I will land up.  One thing is for sure, whilst there are a few places I am intent on visiting, I’m hoping for many destinations.

Photography

This is a hobby and I grow and learn as I go along. Most of the pictures on my blog are taken by myself, and I shoot with a Cannon 30D…mainly using my very fabulous 60mm macro lens.  I also have a point and shoot that gets dragged around pretty much everywhere to capture those ‘out and about shots’. Regrettably the light is not always brilliant in the 1920’s slightly ramshackle cottage that I live in, but I do my best.

I will make mention when another photographer has taken a picture of my work, or contributed to this site, and luckily for me, I get to work with some incredible ones.
